Handmade Hematite & Shell Statement Earrings
Like their opalite sisters, the shell pieces in these earrings came from another piece of jewelry that wasn’t getting the love it deserved. I wanted to take something forgotten and turn it into something that might finally find its person.
This pair has a darker, bolder energy because I paired the shell with hematite, a stone that has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Growing up, my dad would give us hematite rings and tell us they would “protect us from evil.” Whether they actually could, I have no idea, but I believed they could, and that belief made me feel safe.
So hematite will probably always mean protection, childhood, and the strange little power we give to the things we believe in to me.
✦ Made by Hand
Every piece from bykai is made entirely by hand, one at a time. Because I create intuitively rather than following a pattern, each piece is one of a kind and will not be recreated exactly.
Small variations, irregularities, and imperfections are part of the handmade process and are what make each piece uniquely yours.
Many of my pieces incorporate natural stones, shells, vintage or upcycled elements, and other materials that naturally vary in color, shape, texture, and pattern. I personally select and assemble every element before the finished piece makes its way to you.
There is only one of this piece. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. ♡
✦ Jewelry Care
Your jewelry is handmade and should be treated with a little extra love to help it last as long as possible.
Avoid wearing your jewelry while showering, swimming, sleeping, or exercising. Keep it away from perfumes, lotions, hairspray, household chemicals, and excessive moisture. When you’re not wearing it, store it somewhere cool and dry, preferably separately from other jewelry to prevent scratching or tangling.
Natural stones, ceramic, glass, shells, and beads can chip or break if dropped onto a hard surface, so handle them gently.
Because many pieces use mixed metals, natural materials, vintage, or upcycled components, some metals may naturally change or develop a patina over time. This is a normal part of the material aging and can often be minimized by keeping your jewelry clean and dry.
Treat it like the tiny piece of art that it is. ✧
